Crusaders beat Chiefs in Hamilton

As far as the Super 14 is concerned the honours are even between these two teams with two wins a piece.
 
Overall it is a very different story with the Crusaders winning an alarming 10 of the total 14 clashes.

We are waiting for the kick off.
 
0.00: The match is underway.
 
1.00: Dan Carter gives away a penalty after the kick off so Stephen Donald takes the penalty  kick and nails it.
 
3.00: The Crusaders give another penalty so Donald gets another shot and again he nails it.
 
5.00: The Crusaders start to work the ball into the Chiefs half but a Chiefs player infringes so Dan Carter gets a kick at goal with a penalty which he nails.
 
8.00: The Crusaders catch the Chiefs off gaurd as Messam is down injured and they swing the ball to the wing and after a couple of solid passes Kahn Fotuali’i breaks free and scores the first try.
 
9.00: Dan Carter converts the try.
 
14.00: The Crusaders start to attack and it looks like they have done their homework because they frequently get over the gain line with the Chiefs secondary defence coming into play. Brendon Leonard makes a break and it catches the Crusaders offside.
 
15.00: Stephen Donald takes the penalty kick and nails it - Messam took a hit ealier on his hip and it has locked up so he is off.
 
19.00: The Crusaders get another penalty so Dan Carter steps up again and nails the penalty.
 
24.00: The Crusaders are awarded another penalty but this time its near the half way line. Dan Carter kicks but it's short.
 
25.00: The Crusaders are caught offside by referee Mark Lawrence but we get called back for a lifting tackle by Richie McCaw - he gets a talking to but no card after planting Callum Bruce's face in the grass.
 
28.00;The Chiefs attack after the penalty but the Crusaders turn it over and Zac Guildford darts off. The Crusaders change sides but the Chiefs turn it over and boot it downfield.
 
30.00: The Crusasders boot it back and then the Chiefs run at them but some how the Crusaders turn it over and Guildford goes again - he passes to Kahn Fotuali’i who busts free and scores in almost the same place he scored earlier.
 
31.00: Dan Carter nails the conversion.
 
33.00: Just as you sense that the Chiefs need something to spark them Colin Bourke makes a break, he takes Donald with him who passes to Richard Kahui who scores the Chiefs first try.
 
34.00: Donald nails the conversion.
 
36.00: The Chiefs start playing with confidence but the Crusaders turn the ball over and attack with an edge. They run the ball up to the line and diver over but a forward pass went in so no try is awarded. Crusaders showing they have a real edge.
 
37.00: Dan Carter gets anothe kick at posts with a penalty and curls it in - what a kick !
 
40.00: As the siren sounds for half time the Crusaders give away a penalty. Donald kicks from the half way line but misses.

The second half is underway.
 
41.00: The weather has turned and there is now driving rain with the wind behind the Chiefs.
 
43.00: The Crusaders start well keeping the ball tight as they go through the phases.
 
44.00: Aled de Malmanche gives away a penalty so the Crusaders get the first chance for points but Carter misses.
 
49.00: The Chiefs get their attack working and Sitiveni Sivivatu has a run. He gets stopped but the Chiefs recycle. After a couple of phases Leonard gets them closer but Sona Taumalolo knocks on. Crusaders win the scrum and Carter clears.
 
52.00: The Crusaders start picking away at the Chiefs defence but they hold them out. Crusaders are keeping the ball close and tight.  
 
53.00: Crusaders pressure wins them a penalty so Dan Carter takes another kick and nails it.
 
58.00: The Crudaders give away a penalty so the Chiefs kick for touch and the line out. The Crusaders steal the ball and run it out to safety.
 
62.00: Crusaders string together 9 phases but the Chiefs turn it over.
 
64.00: The Chiefs win a scrum but instead of kicking to safety Leonard decides to run the ball. They go though the phases and work the ball forward in 1's and 2m batches. The Crusaders turn it over.
 
65.00: The Chiefs win the ball back but as they go forward the Crusaders win it back and they go through the phases. Eventually they get the advantage but as they get closer to the line the advantage falls away. They drive to within a metre. They go again and again and again at the line. It's relentless attack.
 
68.00:Eventually we go upstairs to see if they got the ball over the line as there are bodies everywhere. Footage is inconclusive so the Crusaders have an attacking scrum 5m out.
 
70.00: A few minutes pass as the scrum gets re-set and then again. The Chiefs win a penalty so they clear and get out of trouble.
 
72.00: The Chiefs gradually work their way down into the Crusaders half. Guildford gives away a penalty so Donald takes the shot and nails it from well out.
 
75.00: Crusaders work the ball back into the Chiefs half. Junior Poluleuligaga comes on for Brendon Leonard. The ball goes out so the Chiefs have a line out. They win the line out and boot the ball downfield. After a couple of phases Dan Carter takes the strike for a drop goal but misses.
 
75.00: From the restart Donald boots a huge kick which sets up a 5m line out. Chiefs win the line out but a Crusaders knock on goes in and the Chiefs have a scrum 10m out. The Chiefs then give away a scrum penalty so the Crusaders boot downfield.
 
78.00: Sweeney has a run for the Chiefs but the Crusaders stop him and turn it over.
 
79.00: Rain buckets down as the Crusaders thwart the Chiefs attacks.
 
80.00: The Chiefs win a penalty and try to run the ball forward after the siren has sounded. Slade gets to the ball and knocks on. That's it - Crusaders win.
