The Hurricanes have brought in Piri Weepu for their clash against the Crusaders on Friday this week as they look to end a run of defeats.
Tamati Ellison was originally named in the team and would have played his 50th Super 14 match on Friday but was ruled out and has been replaced in the starting XV by Andre Taylor.
Ellison was ruled out with a recurrence of the shoulder injury he sustained against the Lions in round three of the competition.
