Cheetahs captain Juan Smith Thursday withdrew from the team to play the Brumbies in Canberra Saturday, following the death of his father.

Smith, who also missed the Cheetahs' last two Super 14 matches because of his father's illness, joined his team in Australia this week, but will return to South Africa as soon as possible.

Barend Pieterse will now move from lock to the side of the scrum with Izak van der Westhuizen coming off the bench at lock and Nico Breedt will replace him on the bench.
