Lions coach Dick Muir has called in the help of former Springbok wing Ray Mordt to help sort out the team's defensive troubles.

The Lions have lost tehir last nine matches and this season they have let 43 tries slip through and conceded 354 points.

Former Bok winger Mordt has been "helping out" Muir since Monday but it is unlikely that the problem will be sorted out soon as the task is huge.

Golden Lions Rugby Union president Kevin de Klerk admitted earlier in the week that "poor defence" has been the side's biggest problem in the Super14 and has now confirmed that Mordt is helping Muir in a "caretaker" capacity.

Mordt says that the Lions have been lacking is a culture of defending.

"All great sides have a good defence," Mordt told Sport24 after taking charge of a training session.

"Defending is all about technique and speed off the line. But most importantly, it's about attitude and communication. "

"And these two aspects must come to the fore when the team is under pressure because it's in pressure situations when things go haywire."
